Our Commitment to the Children

We are dedicated to providing a developmentally appropriate program for the whole child which meets the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of our students.  Our theme-based curriculum allows the children to explore art, music, math, science, dramatic play, and literacy through both fiction and non-fiction literature. We are committed to keeping our classroom size small so that each child has the opportunity to grow and develop optimally.  As a community we value parents as our partners.

Our Classes

Mother’s Morning Out – Our Mother’s Morning Out class is for children between the ages of 16 months and two years old.  This class meets once a week and is designed as a playgroup where each mom takes a turn as the classroom helper.  The class schedule is from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Our average class size is 4-6 children.

Two Year Olds – Our two year old classes meet two days a week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.  Our two-year-olds have many opportunities to experience and explore their environment through their five senses as they sing, move, play.  The theme-based curriculum emphasizes the development of independence and of language skills.  Our two-year-olds enjoy learning how to interact and play cooperatively with one another while learning how to follow a simple routine.

Our student/ teacher ratio is 2 adults per 10 children.

Three Day Class – Our three day class is designed for children who are at least three year olds** and potty-trained (preferably)*. This class meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.  In this class, the children learn to share, play cooperatively, and develop fine and gross motor skills.  Their language development is enhanced by learning rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.   Children learn to problem solve and take risks as they play with dress-ups, blocks, manipulatives (puzzles, beads, stackers, legos, etc.) and art media during centers. They develop physically as they participate in music, creative movement activities and outdoor play.

The student/ teacher ratio is 2 teachers per 12 children.

Three Day/Four Day Class – We offer a transition class for older threes. This class meets for four days, Monday through Thursday. The goals of this class are similar to the three day class and the children are often grouped with the three day children for center activities and outdoor play.

Four Day Class - Our four day class is for children who are turning four during the school year**.  This class meets Monday through Thursday. Children continue to develop those skills that prepare them for success in elementary school.  An emphasis on language development includes exploration of letters and sounds within the context of the classroom where learning to write and recognize names is essential.  Journal writing is also included as part of this program.  Children learn math readiness skills through manipulation of counters (sorting, one to one correspondence), through role playing as store managers and postmen, through designing and building structures, etc. The natural environment surrounding the school gives many opportunities for gardening and exploring nature.

The student/ teacher ratio is 2 teachers per 12 children.

Five Day Class – Our five day class is for children who are turning five during the spring and summer of the school year**.  The class includes children who will attend Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten for the following year.  Thus this class is designed to meet each child at their developmental level.  An emphasis on reading readiness, math readiness, journal writing, phonemic awareness and fine motor development is an ongoing component of the class day.  The thematic based curriculum includes literature, seasonal themes, scientific exploration, art, cooperative play and oral language and communication development.

The student/teacher ratio is 2 teachers per 12 children.

Junior Kindergarten – The Junior Kindergarten program provides a nurturing learning experience and environment for children who are eligible for Kindergarten but not yet ready and for those who birthdays are beyond the September 30 cutoff date for kindergarten entrance.

This program provides young students with positive experiences that are important in establishing the foundation for future school attitudes and success.

We also include activities to encourage creativity, critical thinking, exploration and discovery in a developmentally appropriate learning environment.

Our thematic approach to learning provides children with daily opportunities for math, reading, science, journal writing, phonemic awareness, art, music, scientific exploration, dramatic play, and cooperative play as we prepare the children for success in kindergarten.

The student/teacher ratio is 2 teachers per 14 children.

**We are flexible with our age and help to find the best class fit for the individual student.

* Potty-trained is preferred but we work with parents of those students who are on the verge of being trained.
